I've had the luck of finding two caterpillars on my own in the wild. A Saturnia pavonia with orange spots instead of white or yellow. [link]
And a Hyles gallii caterpillar with brownish maincolouring. [link]
Somehow big insects just make me happy. Perhaps because the bigger the insect the bigger is all the normally tiny details.

Most contries have at least some larger insect I believe. Go out and keep your eyes open and have a bit of luck. ^_^
